What Causes Pain On Left Side Of Abdomen And Under Left Rib Cage?
Question: can bad gall bladder (EF 14%) cause pain on left side, and under left rib cage?

I am Dr.R.K and i am pleased to assist you.
A normal gallbladder is located in the right upper quadrant.
Any pain related to the normally located gallbladder would be felt in the right upper quadrant only. It will not be felt on the left side or under the left rib cage.
EF should be at least 35%. Anything less than that is considered abnormal. The discomfort would be felt in the right upper quadrant only.

I'm sorry Dr. XXXXXXX but I don't think I agree with your answer. I have, since posting this question, researched on line and talked to others, and you most certainly can feel pain on left side and body. At least, there seems that there are many out there who have.....

I am sorry to know that you do not agree with my answer.
The pain of the disease involving a NORMALLY located gallbladder is felt in the right upper quadrant only.
The nerve supply of the gallbladder makes the pain to be felt in this area.
In my 19 years of post qualification experience, I have seen hundreds of patients with gallbladder disease I have seen people with gallbladder disease feeling the pain in this part only.
That is what even the textbook also says.

Between 1 - 3% of people with symptomatic gallstones develop inflammation in the gallbladder (acute cholecystitis), which occurs when stones or sludge block the duct. The symptoms are similar to those of biliary colic but are more persistent and severe. They include the following:
1.Pain in the upper right abdomen that is severe and constant, and may last for days. Pain frequently increases when drawing a breath.
2.Pain may also radiate to the back or occur under the shoulder blades, behind the breast bone, or on the left side.
3.About a third of patients have fever and chills, which do not occur with uncomplicated biliary colic.
4.Nausea and vomiting may occur.
