What Causes Pain In Upper Abdomen And Burning Sensation?

Question: Hi Doctor My wife has PCOS for which she is undergoing treatment and taking medicene Glycomet SR and Novelon for regularizing her periods. Along with above medication she was having vaginal fungal infection for which she was taking cansoft for 15 days as advised by her gynac along with Fas3 kit for 2 times in 10 days gap. Also she is taking Ayurvedic pills for weight loss along with het diet foods as advised by her dietician since January 2014. Now issue here is she is witnessing full black stool for the past 2 weeks continuously. Please advise if this is a thing to worry. She does n't have any stomach pain untill today when she said a very slight pain with burning sensation on her upper abdomen. Currently we are out of city so kindly need your advise and views on the same. Thanks

Brief Answer: pain in abdomen -due to gastritis Detailed Answer: Dear sreetham, Thanks for writing to healthcare magic. As you mentioned your wife is taking multiple drugs. Also she would have changed her diet and eating habits to reduce weight as is recommended in PCOS. This may cause gastritis. pain in upper abdomen and burning sensation may be due to gastric irritation. This is associated with small amount of bleeding in stomach which may be passed through the stool as black colour. Please check if she is on iron supplements as that also can cause black colour stools. In that case there is no need to worry as it happens with iron medicine. she can consider stopping all medicine except novelon for some days and also take Tab pantaprazole twice a day before food. tab digene thrice a day after Food. Avoid spicy food and eat small portion of food often. Avoid starving. Please visit your doctor after you get back and do a complete stool analysis. Please write back if you have any queries. Thanks.
