What Causes Pain In The Throat And Difficulty Swallowing?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: I had slight painful-to-swallow feeling in throats one night a month ago. I woke up and was fine and didn't think anything of it. 1 month later (yesterday), I wake up and feel what I had felt last month. This time, I looked in my mouth and I see a sort of cauliflower like lump directly next or maybe on my uvula. It is flesh colored but looks irritated maybe, as the center is a little red. I took 2 pictures. What could this be?

Growth soft palate

Hi
welcome to healthcare magic and thanks for putting up the query
i have seen your pictures, as per my clinical experience it appears to me like a growth in the soft palate..my advise to you is to get yourself examined by an ENT specialist because a biopsy is required from this growth to know its nature i.e. Malignant or not and further treatment will depend upon the biopsy report..as per your history it already is 2 months for the problem to start,u should visit as early as possible..
Wishing you good health
Any further queries are always welcome
thanks and regards

Based on your clinical experience, can you give me an educated guess as to what kind of growth it is? I aready knew it was a growth on the soft palate. I wouldnt have laid $37 if i would have known that the answer i would have received is "growth on soft palate". You dont have to be a doctor to know that

Detailed Answer:
Hi
thanks for the follow up query
any growth in the soft palate can't be labelled until a biopsy is done
it can be a malignant growth due to squamous cell carcinoma or a melanoma or a salivary gland tumor
if benign it cam be a hemangioma or a cyst
According to your complaints and as per my clinical experience, it is probably malignant..so it should be urgently investigated
a biopsy from the growth will tell its nature..and treatment will depend upon the nature of growth..and a mri is done to see its extent which will also decide the modality of treatment..
Get the required investigations done and you can send me the reports
Take care
regards

Why exactly do you say it is probably malignant? You didnt give any reasoning behind why you thought this.

Brief Answer:
Growth soft palate

Detailed Answer:
Hi
The gross appearance of the growth is irregular and papillomatous..
The symptoms are not too old..cyst and hemangiomas are usually painless unless infected and if infection is there, there is fever as well..
It is just my opinion on looking at it..palpation and examination helps to confirm a diagnosis which is further confirmed by biopsy..
If a growth looks suspicious, it is always good to get it investigated..
Any further queries are always welcome
