What Causes Pain In The Right Side Of Belly Button?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: My 16 year old started with stomach pain after eating around 4 hours ago. The pain is right at his belly button.
I checked him out and he has no rebound tenderness in lower right quadrant, no fever, and if he drops on his heals while standing on toes, he has no increased pain.
No vomiting or diarrhea.
he says the pain has reduced over the last hours and says he felt what he thought was a bubbling, gurguling or popping below his belly button but said it wasnt painful.
I discussed my concerns with him about his appendix and he insists hed tell me if he felt something felt out of norm or bad enough that he wanted to go to the doctor.
does it sound like hes likely eaten something that didnt agree with him ? how long do I wait and see before I would bring him to the doctor?
He said stomach pain was a 5-6 but went down to a 2.
He has had no stomach pain in the last 2 weeks up to this point.

Brief Answer:
Pain in Belly Button / Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Brief Ans-Pain in Belly Button / Under Evaluation
?Food induced Enteritis? Reducible undetected/ Undiagnosed-Umbilical/Paraumbilical hernia

Hi Dear!! Thanks for your query about your 18 yrs son, to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query facts in context to your health concern of ?appendicitis.

My Opinion-
a-Based on facts of your query,You seem to suffer from-Food induced infection-?fungal / ?bacterial/ ? protozoal-with Enteritis.
As the pain has reduced in 4 hours, chances of it being appendicitis, are less.
No accompanied vomiting,or right lower quadrant tenderness, as confirmed from your submission.
b-Borborygmi,gurgling and popping below belly button, indicates -hidden and un-noticed Umbilical hernia, which needs to be confirmed by-USG abdomen study.
Fact that pain came down drastically, over last 4 hours, makes your case to be ruled out for Umbilical/ or paraumbilical hernia.
For this you would need to be Consulted and examined from Surgeon.

Replies to your queries-
Q-1-does it sound like hes likely eaten something that didn't agree with him ?
Ans-1-Yes,its mostly the food induced fungal/or /protzoal, or / bacterial infection, which has caused this health issue, with your son's abdomen.

Q-2-how long do I wait and see before I would bring him to the doctor?
Ans-2-Its only 4 hours later,post-meal and the pain has come down significantly.
This indicates resolved/ reduced?Umbilical/Paraumbilical hernia.
Or it could be food induced infection also.
To confirm, You would need to wait for another 4-6 hours,to assess if any thing
worst is to happen in yours case.
The fact that-he did not have pain in last 2 weeks, confirms that the stomach pain has occurred 2 weeks back.In that case also if pain persists and or increases for next 4-6 hours, You would need to go to ER doctor.

When to go for doctors Check?
In this background, you would need to check out any bulge at belly button by local Surgeon after 4-6 hours, ONLY if the pain recurs with or without vomiting and diarrhoea.

Hope this reply would help you to plan further care with help of the doctors attending on you.
