Posted on Thu, 16 Oct 2014
Question: I have pain in my left flank that wraps around to my back and is getting worse, blood in my urine, heart rate and blood pressure are elevated, nausea and unable to eat as much as normal, I also have a weird sensation when I urinate and a lot of white strands and lumps in my urine as well. I called my Dr and told him and he called in a script for antibiotics thinking I have a uti. I took an antibiotic last night and this morning but the pain is still getting worse. Do I have Kidney disease?

Brief Answer:
You have stone either in Kidney or Ureter.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query,
Pain in loin ,hematuria ,burning urination and turbid urine are strongly suggestive of presence f stone either in kidney or ureter associated with UTI.

However this need to be confirmed y following basic tests .
1) Routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefexine along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin and anti spasmodic like Spamo Proxyvon twice daily with urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

You need to consult Urologist for clinical assessment and further mode of treatment which will be decided by him and depend upon the size site of the stone and degree of obstruction (Hydronephrosis) due to impaction of stone .

Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to write if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards .
