default
Posted on Mon, 17 Oct 2016
Question: Hi, I had colonscopy last Tuesday 5 days ago with a small polyp removed. The week before this I had a sidmoidoscooy with another small polyp removed. There are no concerns of anything nasty going on. I have had sharp pains on left hand side and sometimes right side and dull ache. I have no fever and I am eating ok. Do I need to be concerned about these pains.

Many thanks

Brief Answer:
A bit of concerns necessarily as there is pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/54 - sigmoidoscopic removal of a small polyp about 12 days ago - colonoscopy and polyp removal 5 days ago - have had sharp pains on left hand side and sometimes on the right side and dull ache - no fever, eating OK - no concern of anything nasty going on - wants to know whether to be concerned about these pains....
With the history of polyp removal two times in 12 days, pain as described can be of concerned as these are most probably coming from colon as per the location you have mentioned.
Since there are no other symptoms that you have mentioned like bloating, malena that is black tarry stools, constipation or loose stools, the worry is less and a gap of time has already elapsed in between.
Hence the concerns is not serious but the pains indicates that something is going on and may most probably due to colitis of some sort;
Get a symptomatic treatment with anti-spasmodic.
Please also get ultrasonography and the tests of stool. These may give further idea.
