Brief Answer:
Repetitive stress injury most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to repetitive stress injury. This can occur due to recent wrong posture you had or while sleeping. Pain with or without swelling is characteristic for this.

You can apply ice packs or hot fomentations on the area. Taking over the counter analgesics like ibuprofen ( motrin ) will be helpful also. You can also use anti inflammatory gels containing diclofenac, methyl salicylate and capsaicin for local application.

If there is no improvement then you can approach your GP. And in such case a X ray of cervical spine might be required to rule out any injury.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
