Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: My husband (age 69) had severe pain in the right side last night. At the E.R., they did a cardiogram, and CT scan all with negative results. They gave him morphine for the pain, and there was also nausea and vomiting. Should there be any other follow up ?

Brief Answer:
No need if he is fine.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

If he is totally fine now then no need for any follow up but if he is still in pain or any nausea persists then yes you need to consult your doctor .

His symptoms could either be due to Gastritis or Gall stones ( Unlikely if CT done also included Gall bladder and showed nothing ) Also in case of persistence of symptoms he requires Pantoprezole with domperidone medication which you have to get a prescription from your doctor.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Would an MRI be meaningful ? Perhaps for musculoskeletal problems ?
Could an MRI disclose anything missed in a CT scan, i.e. musculoskeletal issues etc. ?

Not needed.

HI

I don't recommend an MRI as of now . If his pain persists get CT abdomen and Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy scan done .
