What causes pain in multiple joints and swelling in legs?

Posted on Mon, 16 May 2016
Question: I am experiencing swelling in both legs and feet that gets worse towards the end of the day. I know I have been diagnosed with arthritis in my hips and sacroiliac joints, but now my hands(knuckles), feet, knees & wrists have started to hurt. I have a lot of trouble walking especially if I have been sitting for a long time or if it's the first thing in the morning. My GP did a test for Rheumatoid arthritis, but it came back negative. I have been getting a couple of migraines a week and I can't even describe the fatigue. I'm always tired. I'm supposed to see a Rheumatologist on the 15th of March, but the pain is quite intense and I'm not sure if I should be doing something different other than just waiting.

Brief Answer:
Can be seronegative arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in multiple joints like you are having can be due to rheumatoid arthritis even if the test has come negative. This can be a seronegative arthritis.
The swelling of both the feet can be related to arthritis. To reduce the swelling it is best to reduce the salt intake and keep the feet elevated on a pillow while resting. Using the compression stockings will also help. Do continue taking mild pain killers like ibuprofen. Doing a hot compress of the painful joints will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
