Question: Hello— I am a 49 year old male. About 3 weeks ago, I began having a shooting pain in my groin upon getting out of bed; that particular motion seemed to be the only thing that triggered it. After several days, I began having a more constant pain that seemed to originate in my right testicle and shoot down the front of my right thigh.

I went to my GP who checked for hernia (none) and tested my urine, which came back fine. He gave a week's worth of oral steroids to take. Two nights later, the pain became more increased and was accompanied by a nausea that came and went (like when you are struck in the testicles), so I went to a local urgent care facility. Again, hernia and urine checks were normal. The doctor said perhaps it was a low-lying infection and gave me a course of doxycycline. This seems to have had no effect (finished 5 or 6 days ago).

A few days later (a holiday), my wife took me to the ER as the pain was now quite unbearable. They did an ultrasound, which suggested "a small bump" or something on the epiditimys. Both urine and blood came back all normal. Was told to continue the doxycycline and make urologist appointment.

The urologist put me on Cipro and scheduled a CT scan— totally normal. He said I would have to "ride it out," which is NOT something I am keen on. I have finished both the doxycycline and the Cipro and am taking 3 hot soaks a day and applying cold packs around the clock, all while alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen every 4 or 5 hours. This is now almost 3 weeks and I have had ZERO pain relief; I am miserable and having great difficulty functioning. I am at a loss for what to do now.
