Brief Answer:
Can be due to flat foot.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the outer side of the foot and under the thumb area can be due to Flat foot or plantar fasciitis. It can be aggravated by-

- Overweight : leads to more stress over heel and under the thumb
- Prolonged standing
- Shoes that don't fit well or with hard heels, etc.,

Treatment is basically correcting the mechanical axis due to deformities by using insoles, lifestyle modifications - weight loss/avoiding prolonged standing, physiotherapy - hot water massage/ Interferential therapy / Ultrasound etc.,

Insoles (soft cushioned heels with medial arch support) have to be used for both indoor & outdoor activities. Weight loss is of prime importance. Hot water massage before going to bed & soon after getting from bed will reduce pain. Taking mild pain killers like ibuprofen will also help.

If the pain is not responding to these modalities even after 6 weeks, a local steroid injection at the site might be helpful in relieving the pain.

I hope this answers your query.

Thanks Doctor,

Following points are not relevant in my case:-
- Overweight : leads to more stress over heel and under the thumb --
My weight(69Kg) is almost near to Idle weight(66 Kg) to my height. Just 2 Kg over the Idle weight.
- Prolonged standing --
I am a software engineer and most of the time i am sitting only. I am having this problem when i am doing for walk.
- Shoes that don't fit well or with hard heels, etc., --
I am using the right size of the shoe which is not too tight and nor too Loose. And i am not use-to of wearing the Hard sole shoes.

Taking pain killer is temporarily solution. Because i can't take the pain killer thorough out the life. Because this pain comes only when i'll walk more than 15 minutes or while running.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Regards

Brief Answer:
Pain killer will reduce inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Taking pain killer will give you relief as well as decrease the inflammation of the fascia. Taking it for 2-3 weeks will be sufficient. Daily massage and a hot compress with physiotherapy will also help. You can consult an orthopedician for a physical examination in case the pain is persistent.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Brief Answer:
Stretching exercises will help.

Detailed Answer:
Passive and active toe stretching exercises and TENS will help in regaining the elasticity of the feet. Eexrcises like hopping and jogging will also help but only after the acute pain subsides.
