Question: hi dr grief, 2 mornings ago i got out of bed and when I went to go put my left leg down to walk out of my room I collapsed because the pain was doing put any pressure on my leg. I immediately started crying because of the pain and couldn't make it up my first half of the stairs. I didn't do anything to enjoy it and it the pain went my left lower hip, all the way down to my ankle. I could not put any pressure on my leg or even walk for about an hour. It finally started letting up about an hour later but I could feel pain starting to radiate across my lower back. I can walk now and I thought everything was okay until yesterday I could steal some pain in my thigh on the outside of it the samethigh, the same pain that I felt that morning just not as intense. Now it is 230 in the morning almost 3 days later and I'm having a hard time walking because of how cramped up my calf feels. Do you know of any reason why this could have happened? and do I need to try to make an appointment with my doctor who said when I called that the referral from my insurance wouldn't go through a second time so they can not see me until monday? ive had surgery on my lower back in 2010 but I don't feel that this has to do with it because I know the difference in the pain. Please help me thank you-XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
I will advise you to do MRI spine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.
Your present complain suggest possibility of disc pain leading to back, thigh and ankle pain.
Due to compression of this nerve root in spine there is pain in your thigh and leg.

I will advise you to do MRI spine.
For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic[pregabalin] medication can be started consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
Another possibility of leg cramp can be due to low potassium and calcium.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
