Question: Hello I am really desperate to find out what is causing me so much pain. For about 4 months I have been having a lot of discomfort peeing it burns so bad and when I am not peeing it still burns. I have been tested for a urinary track infection and it came back clear. I also have been tested for std and have had 3 paps and they have all come back clear. The problem is up until three weeks ago I douched everyday to clean myself. Now that I have quit douching I notice a huge amount of watery yellow tinged discharge and it has a Oder sometimes. I treated myself twice for a yeast infection and it did not help I also have been douching once a day with hydrogen peroxide for three days and inserting acidophilus in my vagina for 2 to treat bacterial vaginitis if this is what is causing my pain still no improvememt. I went to the doctor yesterday and he put me on a seven day course or cipro to treat a uti as I had trace amounts of blood in my urine although I do not feel like it is going to help. Sex has also become very painful and sometimes I bleed after inter course. Basically my vagina and urethra hurt so bad and I have no idea what could be causing this. I also feel nauseous all the time and have been getting vary bad stomach cramps but my family docter says its ibs I have never had Ibs before I'm so confused and just want to feel better this pain is ruining my life

Brief Answer:
Avoid excessive douching.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Feeling pain while passing the urine might be due to more acidic nature of the urine.
To prevent this, have more and more fluids per day.
Avoid acidic fruit juices like lime juice, orange juice, etc.
Plenty of cranberry juice will help in reducing the symptoms.
Examine the external genital area carefully for any injury and rashes.
If the symptoms do not improve you can get an ultrasound scan done to rule out any possibility of renal or ureteric calculus.
Excessive douching can cause an irritation leading to mild bleeding after intercourse. A high vaginal swab culture will help in detecting any vaginal infection.
The pain in the lower abdomen is likely to be related to a urinary cause. You can consult a urologist for a detailed evaluation.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you for your reply. I will take your advise on staying away from acidic drinks and foods. Do you think there is a posibilitiy i have pelvic inflammatory disease. I have read that douching puts you more at risk and if seams i have the symtoms.

No problem. Thank you for your reply. Why is it that painful urinarion and frequent urination are also a symtom of pid. Is it because the bacteria can travel up the urethra? Also is it possible to have a uti but the test is negative? Thank you so much for your help

Brief Answer:
Burning urination is not due to PID.

Detailed Answer:
Painful urination and frequent urination are not due to pelvic inflammation. It can happen that you have a normal urine test with a persistent infection. Urine culture will help in detecting any infections not detected on a routine urine examination. If the culture is negative then an infection is ruled out.
Pelvic inflammation causes a persistent pain in the lower abdomen. It is not associated with a burning micturition.
