Question: My husband is in pain at the site of an IV he has had in his arm for 2 days. He can't take a number of meds as he's due for colon cancer surgery in 4 days. Is there anything besides ice that helps as this isn't working.

Brief Answer:
Thrombophobe Ointment.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.

Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.

The pain at the site of I.V injection is mostly due to inflammation and thrombophlebitis of that area.

Mostly this swelling subsides in a few days. Usually with in a week.

If there is swelling and bluish discoloration of the skin, you can apply
Thrombophobe Ointment over his local area.

This would help him a lot.

This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
