Posted on Tue, 9 May 2017
Question: For two days and nights I have had tremendous pain in my abdomen around the middle section (where the naval is). I am not constipated and I have gas but have taken gas pills. I have had several small bowel movements but it does not relieve me. Should I go see a doctor?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
To recapitulate: Female/69 - tremendous pain in abdomen - around umbilicus - for 2 days and nights - several small bowel movements - but no relief - gas medicines - stool softener - stool not hard and is light colored ...
Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Was the stool softener taken before pain or after pain was started?
Nausea?
Vomiting?
Bloating?
Rumbling or gurgling sound?
Is pain continuous or comes in waves?

With the history you have provided, severe pain should be seen by a Doctor for clinical evaluation, an actual examination and investigations like :
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasound of the whole abdomen.
to know the exact cause and go for further evaluation with tests of blood, urine, stool, CT scan and others as may be decided on examination.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Brief Answer:
Go to after-hours clinic or Emergency room

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Please stop taking laxative as it is not needed and can cause more problems if there is any inflammatory pathology or sub-acute obstruction of intestine.
Since you have severe pain, it is better to consult the Doctor at the earliest and get minimum investigations done to get the exact cause.
