What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Left Leg?
Question: my mom is 76 and is experience swelling in her left leg...no pain...just very swollen

Swelling of one lower limb can be due to: (1) infection
(2)trauma to that limb
(3) presence of a clot in the veins of the leg
(4)venous disease (varicose veins)
(5) arthritis
(6) blockage of flow of blood or lymph from a structure in the pelvis
Heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease or medication would cause swelling of both legs.
Though there is no pain, a clot would need to be ruled out. It would be best for her to be seen.
Ultrasound taking a look at the blood vessels, is necessary to rule this out. This would not take a look at the bones so if clot is ruled out, the doctors may consider an x ray or other imaging.
