Question: Morning...My son has been prescribed Indomethacin 25 mg caps, one every three hours for his gout arthritis, which has moved into his elbow now. It says it takes up to 4 weeks to notice any relief. He's been taking advil. Also, can ice packs on his elbow help with swelling, and/or pain? He is 31 yrs old, 5'9", 250 lbs if that helps. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Yes ice packs will help with swelling and pain!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

Yes, ice packs will help with the pain. The issue is that he has excess uric acid in his body which crystallizes and causes destruction of the joints with all the associated symptoms. He should avoid alcohol, red meat should endeavor to exercise often to loss weight.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me for more information and clarifications if need be.
