Question: Hi, my girlfriend has been suffering from severe pain in her clitoris, it hurts when she wants to stand up and clean herself when she goes to the bathroom. She feels the clitoris is out as opposed to the normal state where is hidden.
She wants any advise on this, we had intercourse last sunday but she has severe pain right now. Any help thank you.

Brief Answer:
Post arousa, hematoma or infection in clitoris

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
A swollen clitoris may be seen after a usual sexual intercourse and this is because of fluid accumulating in the tissues of clitoris after sexual arousal. This is however present for about two days and can also be a result of masturbation or foreplay. Since you say that last sexual intercourse was about 6 days back, it is important to know about any sexual arousal behavior by masturbation or foreplay which might have been a bit excessive.

The other cause for a swollen and painful clitoris is hematoma formation after vigorous intercourse. This can last for up to a week or ten days after sex. This happens because of small amount of bleeding within the clitoris as a result of minimal trauma to blood vessels. This usually recovers if the individual refrains from having sex for about 15 days.

Pain and inflammation of clitoris may also be due to mild infection and can be treated by a short course of antibiotics.

It is important that she consults a doctor and confirms the condition, especially if it is worsening and take the right treatment measures. She may wash her genital area with warm water twice a day to avoid any infections till she consults a doctor.

Hope your query is answered.
