What Causes Pain And Sensitivity In Vulva?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Apr 2015
Question: I had pain in the vulva and it was sensitive to wash or wipe. By day 2 it was almost painful to sit. On day 3, I put on some jeans and went dancing. I felt wetness between my legs and rushed to the bathroom. I found smelly, greenish mucous (and it looked a bit fleshy) in my underwear and on the tissue when I wiped. However, the pain diminished. What is happening or has happened? Should I schedule a doc appt.?

I have avoided sex with my husband because of this and now he's grumpy. Is it okay to engage since the pain has ceased? Is this something that can affect him?

Brief Answer:
it might be a fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query .

It seems that you are having a vaginal infection.Since the cream Monistat has improved the symptoms ,then a fungal infection is the most likely diagnosis.
I would suggest to use Monistat suppositories: insert 1 suppository into the vagina at bedtime for 3 nights in a row.
Also apply Monistat external cream if the area outside of vagina is inflamed, painful, itchy. Use 2 times daily for up to 7 days

If the symptoms don't go away after the treatment ,then you may need to consult a physician and get examined.

It would be better to avoid sexual intercourse until your symptoms go away because you can transmit the fungal infection to your husband.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you need further help.

Could it have been an abscess or boil?

Brief Answer:
it is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

It is possible for it to have been a boil.In this cause the inflammation and pain would have been localized in one area (where the boil was).
If all vulva was irritated, inflamed, itchy with vaginal secretions ,then a fungal infection is more likely.
If the pain was localized in one area,it was not itchy and you had secretions only for one moment then a boil is more likely.
In this case you don't need to take the antifungal cream and sexual intercourse won't cause any problem for you husband.

Take care.
