What Causes Pain And Rectal Pressure When Suffering From Ovarian Cyst?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Jul 2014
Question: I was diagnosed with a 2.5 cm ovarian cyst on my right ovary and constipation 5 days ago. the CT scan showed no torsion and good blood flow to the ovary. I have been having a sharp pain and rectal pressure for about 30 mins now on that side. should I go to the ER? My Gp recommends a f/u after my next cycle and ultrasound to check on the cyst. i am just scared because I had an ectopic in january and lost my left ovary and tube.

Brief Answer:
Not likely to be torsion cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A 2.5 cm ovarian cyst with normal blood flow to the ovary is likely to be a benign simple cyst. It rarely undergoes a torsion and causes pain. The pain in the lower right side of abdomen can be due to endometriosis, bladder spasm or sometimes kidney stones. Any pelvic infection related to the intestines or colon (Enteritis Or Colitis) can also cause such a pain.
If there are no disturbances in your periods or if you have no other associated symptoms such as vaginal discharge, fever, difficulties while passing urine and so on, there is no reason to worry.

As far as treating pain is concerned, I would suggest you to consult a gynecologist for physical examination. Following evaluation, he/she can prescribe you antispasmodic drug which can prevent pain.

In the mean time, home measures such as hot compresses over the lower abdomen and massages can help. Over the counter analgesics such as ibuprofen can be useful on some occasions.

Be assured it is not a serious problem and will be redressed by assurance and proper treatment. In case the pain is severe or is increasing then a visit to ER is recommended.

Wishing you good health.

Would it rupturing cause this? The report said it was likely to be a follicular cyst. Since my ep I have had normal cycles 25-28 days. I have a weird pain in my right hip as well. Could it be constipation?

Brief Answer:
Can be follicular cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Yes it can be a physiological follicular cyst. This can be determined after the next scan after your periods.
The pain you have can be related to constipation also. Taking excessive laxatives can cause such a colicky pain. It should subside after clearing your bowels. The pain in the hip is likely to be muscular in nature which will subside with mild pain killers.
Hope my answer is helpful.
