Question: I have suffered with pain in my hamstring for a year. Have had all the usual tests and all wnl. I have now developed a rope like knot running perpendicular to the muscle.

The pain in the hamstrings with a knot in the area is likely to be due to a muscle spasm. Obesity can cause repeated muscle strains and causes formation of scar tissue that can feel as a knot.
Treatment is done by
Rest
Icing of hamstrings
If pain,take anti inflammatory drugs and local gel. Oral muscle relaxants will also help.
Stretching of hamstrings by pulling both legs towards chest with hands below knees
Prevention
Take enough calcium,VIT D and B complex vitamins
Strengthening exercises for hamstrings.
