What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In The Penis?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Dec 2016
Question: Hello,

I've been having irritation, pain, and burning in my penis for some time now over the past few months. I was initially given a topical steroid cream (Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream 0.5%) by my primary, which coupled with no sex/masturbation, I had a slow healing time. It never seemed to fully heal; I've had good and bad days here and there. However, the pain severely spiked again about for the past 3 weeks now. I've used the cream again for 2 weeks, and for the past week i've been applying unrefined XXXXXXX butter twice a day. My symptoms have slowly reduced from pain on the entire penis to isolated just the head. My penis head looks a bit scaly and I've noticed a white bump on the bottom side of my penis near the head.

Is this fungal? I am not sure if I am treating the right cause. I had thought maybe I should get a prostate exam but I don't have other symptoms of a prostate infection. Any help is appreciated! I would like this anxiety to go away about this problem.

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Clarify some points.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist,i can understand your concern.

You should definitely consult an Urologist.
According to your symptoms and the reports (snaps),you must stop the butter applications
You could be developing a reaction to it.

You must describe the symptoms affecting you the most.
Is it pain inside the penis ?
Is it pain during passing of urine ?
Is it pain over the penis shaft ?
Do you have pain all the time ?
Are you having itching over the penis ?
Does your spouse or partner have itching or any skin lesions ?
Do you have sex with multiple partners ?
Have you had same sex partners ?

Clear these doubts and reply.
If you've done any tests so far, send all the reports.
Wish you well.

The butter application was only a development within the past week to address the symptoms; my penis has looked the same before the application and hasn't caused any further irritation than what I already experienced. In case the root cause was topical I thought that may have helped (really desperate here).

Here are the answers:

Is it pain inside the penis ? Inside and out
Is it pain during passing of urine ? No
Is it pain over the penis shaft ? Initially, but after applying the steroid cream it is primarily in the head, occasional pain on the rest of the shaft.
Do you have pain all the time ? It comes and goes. I could be sitting at the computer and suddenly I feel pain
Are you having itching over the penis ? I haven't had itching at any point
Does your spouse or partner have itching or any skin lesions ? No
Do you have sex with multiple partners ? No
Have you had same sex partners ? No recent sexual activity (only earlier in the year)

I did have urine and blood work done to test for STDs in September when I first starting having this issue; I've reviewed them with a doctor and all looked negative. I can fetch the results if you like and send it.

Brief Answer:
kindly send all reports you have.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Kindly send all the reports you have.
Also the treatment other than Triamcinolone cream,if tried.

It doesn't appear to be related to any prostate infection.
lf you've done semen culture, send that report.

Wish you well.
Till then, you may re-start triamcinolone cream locally.

Brief Answer:
Reports are grossly normal. clarify on HbsAg report.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Have gone through all the reports, done in August.
Your HbsAg test shows ' reactive '. You may confirm that with the lab.
If so,the treatment advise will be different.

Is the Triamcinolone been started by a skin specialist or Urologist.
Have you re-started it ?
In a weeks time, you should be able to see the difference.
Wish you good health.
