What Causes Orange Pigmented Eye Lids?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Jun 2014
Question: Hello, I'm a 46 yr old male who has had an orange pigmentation to the whole surface area of both eyelids for approx. 2 years now. I have enquired with my Dr. but he was unable to view this because of fluorescent lighting.
I do know my GTA levels are in the warning range however, I do not use drugs or alcohol. I am on several meds and my Dr states that this is the cause for the GTA results.
Is there any specific diagnostic test he could requisition to confirm the cause of this unusual pigmentation?
Thank you.

Waiting for more details and pictures.

Brief Answer:
Orange Palpebral spots reported in very few

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

At this time we need to understand why there is orange discoloration. Some say it is about deposition of carotene pigments because of excessive consumption of vit A, orange fruits. Some would like to measure the Vit E, Retinol and carotenoid levels in the blood. In few such cases where this was reported most of the organ symptoms were normal and could not find any deficiency or cause. So they finally reported this as under reported entity and diagnose as 'Orange Palpebral Spots'. It may not be anything with Xanthelesma which is more popular diagnosis related to fat deposition.

Though the reasons were unlcear a possible role of high-level adipocytes, coloured by carotenoids, or lipofuschin deposits associated with the thin skin of the eyelids were said.

I suggest you not to worry about them unless the Vit A levels or retinol levels or lipid profile is high.
