Brief Answer:
Medical treatment is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted the symptoms of your father. Based on that, the possible diagnosis are: 1. Essential (familial) tremors, 2. Parkinson's disease.

An examination by neurologist would be able to confirm the diagnosis.

Medical treatment is available for both the conditions, but only after examining the patient.

Please get back with follow-up queries.

Best wishes,

Brief Answer:
Medicines may be needed in addition.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back with additional information.

Advice of stopping smoking is good, as it has multiple health benefits.

In addition, medicines such as propranolol would also help in reducing tremors. However, it should be started after clinical examination by a neurologist.

Best wishes,
