Posted on Tue, 24 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I delivered a baby boy six months back by c-section. Had my first period on march 1st..bleeding dint stop so my doctor suggested meftal for 3 days. It stopped after that. In april dint get periods. On may 10th I started spotting and was spotting for about 10 days. I am bleeding heavily since May 21st. Doctor suggested meftal.bleeding didn't stop. Then she suggested trapic. Dint work. Went for a scan yest. Showed fibroids of 21mm and 13mm posterior intramural. Endometrial thickness 6.1mm. Right ovary with multiple follicles. Doc said fibriods are not causing bleeding and suggested I use modus for ten days to regularise my cycle and said bleeding is due to lactation and hormonal imbalance. Started using modus today but bleeding increased. Is the treatment correct? Please help

Brief Answer:
detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Dear member,
Thanks for writing.
Occasionally bleeding can be erratic during lactation as the cycles are anovulatory. The endometrium lacks estrogen support. The treatment given by your doctor is correct. Initially mefenamic acid and trapic are given. If no response then modus is used. But as you mention the bleeding has worsened then we can wait for a day or 2 by continuing modus and tragic_mf. If still bleeding then you may need estrogen and progesterone combination like ovral though we don't generally recommend ovral during lactation.
Also sometimes irregular bleeding can be due to pregnancy.
Please do a urine pregnancy test.
Hope this was helpful.
Please write back with any questions. I will be glad to answer.
Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I am not taking Trapic now. Doctor advised only modus along with iron tablets. Pregnancy test is negative. Also i want to know if weaning will help regularising my periods soon. Is the endometrial thickness normal and what do the multiple follicles in the ovary mean and do i need to worry about the fibroids?

Brief Answer:
take trapic along with modus

Detailed Answer:
Dear member,
Thanks for writing.
The tablet Trapic and modus have different method of action.
Hence you can benefit from taking them together.
Early weaning just to regulate period not recommended.
Fibroids are small hence not reason for bleeding.
The endometrium is also not too thick hence you may not benefit from D&C.
Most women will respond to modus and trapic.
As pregnancy test is negative and that you are taking iron supplement there is no need to worry. Multiple follicles ares seen in most women with irregular bleeding.
Wait for atleast 48 hours before changing medicine.
Thanks
