What Causes Occasional And Recurrent Hip Pain While Standing Up?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Feb 2016
Question: I have hip pain which only occasionally occurs when I stand up. It is an intense burning which can be so strong that I can't put weight on that leg. Then, the next time I stand up, there's no pain at all. It's completely unpredictable. There's no hip pain in between episodes. Could you please give me an idea about what might be causing this? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to muscle spasm or spondylosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The occasional hip pain on standing that you have can be related to a sudden muscle spasm or spondylottic changes in the lower spine. Minor disc compression or nerve root irritation may be involved. A direct injury to the hip also needs to be ruled out.
To confirm the diagnosis it is best to consult an orthopedician and get an MRI scan done. Till then for symptomatic relief you can try stretching exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist to maintain the proper tone of your hip and lower back muscles. Doing a hot compress will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
