Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: Hello, my 14 yr. old daughter has complained of her legs and feet feeling numb when she sits on the toilet. She is also now complaining of bilateral groin pain that radiates around to her lower back and bilateral leg numbness when exercising and playing sports. Her only medical history is a multinodular thyroid goiter with normal thyroid studies and negative antibodies that is watched every 6 months. She does complain of abdominal pain after most meals and fluctuates between constipation and frequent bathroom trips. She has an appointment soon for the bowel issues. Otherwise, she is never been a big complainer. she is 5'1 130# very active in dance and basketball with everyday practices in one or the other. She started her period early at end of her 5th grade year.

Brief Answer:
Looks like two issues.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Two issues.

1.First is nerve related. Her limb pain can be related to nerves.Such pain is seen in peripheral neuropathy.Peripheral neuropathy can be seen in patient with thyroid issues. Also her bowel complain can lead to deifciency like Vit B12 deficicnecy , this can also present with such limb pain.So she needs to be seen by physician.

2.For bowel complaints I am suspecting irritable bowel syndrome.A visit to gastroentrologist seems appropriate.

She is in phase of evaluation so get clinical evaluation done and get list of tailored investigations from her doctors to reach the diagnosis. After that appropriate treatment can be planned.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.
