Question: Hello Doctor, I am 50 years old. I had a hernia operation on my left groin area 4 years ago and I have numbness on the left side of my penis and have trouble getting and erection. The hernia was strangulated. Before the operation I had no trouble at all. Is there any vitamins or supplements that would help? Thank You

Brief Answer:
hernia unlikely to be the cause of poor erection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
If your hernia was strangulated, open surgery must have been the only option. Quite frequently at the time if incision for hernia we come across nerves superficially below the skin which occasionally cambe safeguarded while on occasions we will be unable to see them and they get cut. As they are superficial, the only real consequence would be a mild numbness of the skin supplied by the nerve and this area usually reduces in size with time as other superficial nerves compensate and take over the nerve supply.
I guess in your case the other nerves have probably not taken over the way it should have. You cab use medicines like pregabalin and vitamin b12 which might improve the situation but they are more likely to work if there is neuropathic pain.
The nerves responsible for detection are not located anywhere near the hernia site and in your case I almost sure your erections will improve with medications like Tadalafil which at 10mg dosage every alternate day should help you achieve a better erection for satisfactory intercourse.
This being a drug available only by prescription you should get yourself examined by a Urologist to confirm you will not have adverse events following the use of the drugs which can happen for example if you have a cardiac issue.
Hope I have been of help.
Regards and best wishes.
