What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Hand, Swollen Lips, Constipation And Weakness?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: I have had 2 previous hospitalizations due to numbness and tingling on my left foot. (paralized for one whole week) One on 03/13 and second on 04/14.
Yesterday my hands became numb and tingling, fever 101.3, lips swelling, pulse 88 and weakness. (note weakness on a daily basis along with constipation)
I have attached blood results, MRI, xrays results from previous visits to neurologist and hospital admissions.
I just began to see a pediatric neurologist on July but sadly i just turned 18 on september and she advised me she could not diagnose me yet and to continue consulting an adult neurologist.
I have episodes where I can't walk for up to one month, constant headaches, body very tense, constipated, numbness and tingling of left foot and arms, tremors, and lately fever.
Please advise as to what you think I might have. (Could it be symptoms of multiple sclerosis?
I also noticed on the MRI's it came out a 10mm pineal cyst and a tornwaldt cyst.
I have set up appt with neurologist but is not till November

Brief Answer:
It seems to be some inflammatory neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your detailed history of the problem and understand your concerns.
It is not possible to approve or refuse presence of multiple sclerosis but the relapasing and remitting course in a young female indicates toward high possibility of multiple sclerosis. At the same time absence of MRI findings (at least not mentioned in query) suggestive of MS indicates there is some inflammatory neuropathy located in periphery rather than in brain.

The recent onset of fever also points toward the inflammatory pathology somewhere else in body rather than brain.

I think it will be highly appropriate if you can get following reports from nearby laboratory.
1. Anti Nuclear Antibody
2. Urine Routine and Microscopy
3. Nerve conduction studies
4. Serum Vit B12
5. Serum Viral markers

I must acknowledge that this is not extensive list and they are absolutely necessary at this stage.

'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
