Posted on Mon, 8 Jun 2015
Question: In 2007 I had two stroke at the same time(I temperol lobe and 1 frontal lobe) the only residual effect after 7 years is a "numb thumb". Three weeks ago I started to get tingles and sensations back in the thumb. about two weeks ago my thumb started turning colors. dark pink to dark purple. I lift weights and exercise daily. in the process of working out today I noticed that the nail bed was almost black and the thumb is cold to the touch and getting painful, the back side of my thumb is normal in coloration. the pad side of my thumb is swollen slightly and changes color from a light fleshy pink to almost black at the pad of the thumb.

Brief Answer:
Likely a bruise, color change needs evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

i read your question and i understand your concern. With history of multiple infarcts in past this numbness and color discoloration of thumb needs evaluation and work up to rule out any vascular compromises like thoracic outlets, raynaud's or any other condition causing cyanosis of fingers or gangrene.

One likely possibility of this painful color discoloration be a mere bruise or a small hematoma which is very possible in situations like workouts and weight lifting exercises. Applying cold ice and anti inflammatory medication should do the job. Although you should consult a doctor as color change and getting cold of an inflamed finger are bad signs and need assessment and prompt management.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
