Question: my six year old complained of neck pain. Checked her neck and she has a swollen area just behind her left ear. It is tender to touch and oval shaped. Its not a rock hard nodule but not really soft either

Brief Answer:
Can be lymph node swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The swelling behind the ear that you have detected is likely to be a lymph node swelling that is suggestive of an infection in the local area. It can be an infection in the ear or scalp. A close examination is needed for proper diagnosis and oral antibiotics will help in proper recovery. Do consult her pediatrician for proper examination and prescriptions.
I hope this answers your query.
