What Causes Neck Muscle Pains In A Patient With Thyroid Disorder?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Mar 2015
Question: I have had muscle pains in my neck and right shoulder on and off for about a week after I got so stressed out over a stage performance that I got palpatations and a bad headache in the lower back of my head by my neck. I have also had a lot of gas and have been feeling dry in the mouth and throat a little choking feeling. I can breath just fine and when I stop thinking about the throat thing it goes away. I had my thyroid destroyed several years ago because of Hypo/hyperthyroidism and now take synthroid. my bloodwork about 1 1/2 months ago showed high/normal thyroid . Do you think any any of this is related? Could I have gotten a blood clot from getting stressed? Could my thyroid start functioning again and be causing the dry/choking feeling? I feel like a hypochondriac . PS: my gas situation has gotten bad since I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago. Sometimes I think that could cause the chokey feeling in my throat cause a lot of times it feels better for awhile after I get rid of some gas.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid

Detailed Answer:

Sorry to learn about your medical condition.

I suggest getting your thyroid levels rechecked. TSH and Free T4 can be done at anytime and do not require fasting.

It is desirable to keep the thyroid levels in target range and steady. This requires fine tuning of the synthroid dose. Once this has been achieved, one cannot attribute any symptoms to the thyroid.

Also it would be important to have your neck examined by a physician, preferably an endocrinologist to see if there is any thyroid enlargement that can explain your neck problems.

It is unlikely to get blood clots from stress.

The likelihood of the thyroid growing back and functioning after radiation treatment is small but can happen.
