What Causes Muscular Pain In The Chest?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: A couple days ago i felt a pressure in my chest when i twisted my upper body and it would go away if i sat normally. Yesterday i started feeling chest pain more constantly. It feels somewhat concentrated 4 cm left of my sternum and the pressure is in between sharp and broad. I also feel tingling across the bottom of both my arms all the way to my pinkies, but it is a bit stronger on the left. Today the pressure is still constant but also randomly pops up other places like lower down, to the left and to the right. I took vitamin b, k2 and cholestyramine. There is a slight ache in the top of my left shoulder but that might be from pushups.
My dad died of a heart attack in his 30s. I am a 24 year old white male in generally good health, with a little bit of fat on me.

Brief Answer:
Cardiac cause needs to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain that you have described can be a muscular pain with a mild nerve root compression causing tingling but a cardiac cause needs to be ruled out after a proper examination and a few investigations.
It would be better to get the following investigations done to rule out cardiac related problems.
1. Troponin -T and CPK-MB
2. ECG in all leads with a rhythm strip in lead 2
3. Echocardiography
4. Tread mill test
5. Thallium scan (Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy)
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Is it likely to be cardiac related even if the pressure changes with stretching and it doesnt get worse with exercise?

Brief Answer:
Screening for cardiac problems is required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
It is less likely to be a cardiac cause but since you have a positive family history a screening at this stage is required.
Hope my answer is helpful.
