Question: Hi, I am a family physician of 25 years experience and have never come across what I and My son have been experiencing since his adoption from guatemala. We have appeared to have contracted an infectious disease that I cannot find the answer to. to make as brief as possible, progressive muscle twitches global and symmetrical in 50 and 5 year old developing over a couple years. seizure in son with neg neuro workup except elevation in the opening pressure on the spinal tap, neuropathy mild in son and more severe in me sensory only with initial axonal degeneration mild and then neg on fu net. sons neuropathy responds to b12 without a deficiency. had night sweats in father and in son prior to dosing of cipro and zithro for a month in father and in son and cleared most of the neuro sx only to recur incompletely in both the father and the son. more recently developing pulmonary rales in the upper lobes in the father with foamy sputum with normal plum function testing, episodic lasting days to week per episode about a month apart with fluctuation in the neuralgia in the father about weekly from 5-7/10. Son has had intermittent XXXXXXX stools for the last 2 years since guatemala. cleared to normal brown after cipro and zithro and has changed partially back. did lyme titer elisa and blot and sone turned 1 IgG and one IgM and father neither. ran babesia and bartonella and both neg. tick area and another child who had an erythema migraines. Son from guatemala during high prevalence of leptospirosis. cbc negative, giemsa negative cup with slight renal shift in father(me) to 1.3 cr from 1.1-1.2. no findings on CMP or cultures. oh yeah, to complicate further thinning of the skin and elbows with an odd veruccal plaque over the entire bursa area of the elbow and scalp with a pigmented rash neck and head raindrop appearance on the temples with a normal serum heavy metal and normal hair analysis for mercury and for arsenic, lead and copper.

Symptoms in your son make me suspicious about post Dengue fever complications. This diagnosis may not explain symptoms in you well, but does suit your child's sufferings. I consider you would have screened for the same during the active illness or soon after the trip. But I would suggest you to get investigated in the same line. Get the Dengue IgG estimation done. Also Get the complete CSF analysis now. It would be very helpful if you can share the test reports you and your son underwent. I shall after looking at them confidently proceed with further investigation to arrive at suitable management. Waiting for your response,
