Question: Open sores are developing on my wife's head, arms, legs and back for the last 2 months
What could be causing them
Answered by Dr. Indranil Ghosh 6 hours later
Brief Answer:
many causes are possible

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query.

Multiple open sores are possible due to many causes. It can be because of bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection, dermatitis, autoimmune disorder or even some sort of skin cancer.. You have mentioned that cortisone has been tried. Then probably the dermatologist is thinking of dermatitis. Has it helped?

If not resolving, I would recommend swabs from the sores and a biopsy from one of the lesions. That would clinch the diagnosis and suggest appropriate treatment.

Hope this helps. I will be available for further follow up queries, if any.
