I have got this checked with couple of doctores, and was advised to cut down on some fruits and chenge the Milk from Cow milk to Low lac milk and from that to Soyamilk. Currently she is passing 1-2 stool a day, sometime soft and sometime curd consistency. I have got few test done, like reducing sugar which is negative, Regular routine stool test is Acedic, dirty brown and semi digested. I have also got Occult blood test which says Results : Present, Units : Blank and Bio Ref Interval: Absent........Can someone advise what could be the reason behind

Brief Answer:
This is normal...don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi... this is a normal finding. Do not worry about this. You need to worry about loose motions only if the kid is extremely lethargic or not passing urine well or has stomach distention or green coloured vomiting or blood in the motion. The stool test is showing occult blood positive in the report... very rare possibility is cows milk protein allergy ...but this is extremely unlikely are the kid's already 1 and half years old.

I gave oral Iron drops and she has cucumbers, so can that be a reason for having possitive in occult. Also, why the Unit is Blank and Bio reference interval

Brief Answer:
Iron supplements and cucumbers are not the reason please

Detailed Answer:
Hi...iron supplements and cucumbers are not the reason for occult blood being positive in the stool test.

The unit is blank because the test says whether occult blood is present or absent. It is only a qualitative test and not a quantitative test. Only in quantitative tests we get the units. The reference value is also not there for the same reason.

I suggest you do a cow's milk specific IgE in the same Lalpath lab and get back to me. Though a rare possibility keeping in mind the age, cow's milk protein can manifest like this.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on suspicion of Cow's milk protein allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hi... I understand your concern. You have the right to clear all your doubts before going ahead with the suggestion.

I am suggesting cow's milk allergy because of 2 reasons -

1. The problem started whenever she took cows milk or milk related products.

2. Even Soya milk products have 15% cross reactivity in the gut when there is cow's milk protein intolerance.

Hope your doubts are cleared. If not I am willing for further clarifications.
