What Causes Mucus In Stool After Taking Avonex?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Dec 2015
Question: I have ms and had an allergic reaction to tecifedera and discontinued using the medication. I recently changed to avonex. I also have lymphdema, pernicious anemia, ibs, acid reflux and venus insufficiency. In the past three weeks, every time I urinate, I also have a large amount of fecal material which oozes from the rectum. I have to use a sufficient amount of toilet paper in order to clean the mess. It is a large amount.
I failed to mention that my last blood work indicated that the Lymphatic system is under a 100. I have the jv virus. The fecal material is not formed, but is a slime texture. This has been going on for approximately three weeks.

Brief Answer:
Side effects are drug related

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can certainly understand your concerns.

I apologize for the delayed response owing to my work schedule.

I have worked through your query in detail.

The slimy stool in your case is a side effect of Avonex. This is further enhanced by If virus infection.

The fecal soiling could probably relate to Rectal incontinence which could be due to Rectal prolapse.

I advice you to get an MRI scan of pelvis to confirm this finding.

Further management is based on test results.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
