Question: Hi there thank you. I quit smoking 6 months ago and feel really well. However last week I felt a mild tightness in my chest and could not cough etc. Went to my GP he checked chest, bp etc. and all was fine. I also had a tingling sensation in my left hand and he felt they were not related. Anyway for the past 4 days I have this tightnesss in my rib cage and tummy area. No pain but extremely uncomfortable and have not slept for the past 4 nights. I am fine if I am up and about and doing something..... anyway am worried at this stage.....

Brief Answer:
Heart problem can be the case. Please consult your doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

You should come back to your doctor. Smoking increases the risk of heart problems (ischemic heart disease), lungs problem (COPD, lung cancer), esophagus cancer. All this conditions can be the reason of your symptoms.
As you can not sleep for so long, something serious might be the case.

Heart pain is usually dull, squeezing and tends to radiate to left arm or jaw. Abdominal pain can also appear due to heart issue.

I suggest you to have some diagnostic done. Heart ECG, heart enzymes (Troponine, CK-MB), blood work, chest x-ray (CT would be better), abdominal ultrasound should be done at first. You should also consult pulmunologist and have spirometry done.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
