What Causes Mild Pain In Chest Inspite Of Using Ibuprofen?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: Hello! For several years now, I have had this discomfort/mild pain on the left side of my chest, which is usually felt under the left breast. It does not spread to other areas, but seems to be localized. My doctor says it is related to acid reflux, but it is not a burning sensation. More like a dull ache which changes in intensity, but never more than 4-6 on the pain scale. My doctor prescribed Ibuprofen 800mg and Nexium 40mg which does help a little, but does not relieve the pain entirely. My doctor does not feel it is cardiac related as I have had chest X-ray. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Thank you!

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Chest X-ray is not a test for heart problem diagnostics.
Heart pain is usually squeezing or burning like. can radiate to the left arm or jaw but does not have to. Shortness of breath, sweating and weakness can appear.
As you have high blood pressure, heart issue is possible. That is why you should have an ECG, stress test and heart ultrasound done.
Acid reflux pain is associated with foods intake. The pain gets better for a moment when drinking water. Nausea is also present. As you have had acid reflux before, it is time to have gastroscopy done to see if there is no esophagus inflammation which can give such pain as well.
If the pain is sharp like, well localized and gets better when not breathing, rib nerve pain is most probable.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
