default
Posted on Wed, 3 Aug 2016
Question:
Dear sirs

My problem is my period is disordered. I did the abortion surgery on 20th May 2016. My first period lasts two week (about 15 days) from that day I do the surgery. Pasting three weeks, my second period was coming, now it is the third week, I am still bleeding. I am so worried about this problem. I think is irregular. Does my surgery comes out some problems? What should I do? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Can be due to abortion or hormonal disturbance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

The prolonged bleeding that you are having is menorrhagia. It can happen due to incomplete abortion or uterine fibroids or even a hormonal disturbance. You need to get an ultrasound scan of the lower abdomen done to see if the abortion is complete or not. Do consult your gynecologist for proper hormonal treatment to combat the excessive bleeding that you have.

The management of this condition would require treatment with progesterone to stabilize the endometrium and reduce bleeding along with hemostatic agents like ethamsylate or tranexaemic acid . Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) suppress endometrial development, reestablish predictable bleeding patterns, decrease menstrual flow, and lower the risk of iron deficiency anemia.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
