Question: My wife took xeljanz a biological and after 2 weeks started with malaise and later developed daily chills and fever that has lasted for two weeks and today she broke out with rash. Could this be serum sickness and if so when should she expect recovery. Chest X ray and urine cultures are negative. Blood cultures are pending.

Brief Answer:
Possible immunological serum sickness like reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

I have worked through your query.

Possibly this could be an immunological reaction to the biological.Serum sickness is a likely possibility.

This is expected to resolve in 2 weeks time from now.

Suitable medications like antihistamines should be instituted for a quick recovery.

I generally prescribe oral pills of tab levicetrizine one pill thrice a day for 1 week.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these pills to you.

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you.
