What Causes Lumps In A Circle Around The Injection Site Of An Implanon?

Question: Good Morning,

I have had an implanon now for six weeks, it is my second one and it works fantastically for me, with only side effect being acne. However This time around I have large (2cm accross minimum) lumps in a circle around the injection site, they are incredibly itchy. I have tried creams and antihistamines incase I am allergic to something with no result. The skin around it is also very red and spotty. The swelling is really bad today, so much so my shirt feels tight around the area. What can help? Will I have to have it taken out?

Brief Answer:
IMPLANON MIGHT REQUIRE REMOVAL

Detailed Answer:
I have gone through the picture.
It is not clear enough.
THe lumps are not visible.
Also, is the swelling appearing such because you are flexing your arm, or is it that much swollen already ?
Also, please provide the other details as requested too, regarding prior treatment.
Please get to your doctor ASAP if not already done.
There seems to be quite a bit of swelling and inflammation.
THe IMPlanon might require removal if antihistaminics and topical creams have failed.
You cannot wait for this to worsen and get infected.
Take care.

no prior treatment, just over the counter creams and antihistamines. I am not flexing, it is just swollen.

Brief Answer:
DO NOT SELF TREAT, SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

Detailed Answer:
Please get to your doctor then at the earliest.
The area needs to be thoroughly palpated and evaluated to rule out any super added infection.
You might need antibiotics also.
Local Thrombophobe gel might help, but you have had enough of self medication.
As I said, if the infection has set in, Implanon might require removal.
A complete assessment can be made only by touching it and clinically examining it.
Do not delay doing so.
