default
Posted on Mon, 8 Sep 2014
Question: I have a lump the size of a half dollar rising up on my right shoulder. It oozes a smelly pus and I dont know what it is..I have had it about 2 years now and I dont see signs of it clearing up. It doesnt itch or hurt unless someone pats me on the lump under my shirt. I hide it and worry over it and I have no diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
It is sebaceous cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it looks like a sebaceous cyst.
It occurs due to some collection in the hair follicle.
When it ruptures through a opening called punctum, the material will be smelling.
Sometimes, it gets infected and discharges pus which is foul smelling.
Please consult your Surgeon and get it removed.
It is a simple procedure and can be done under Local anaesthesia.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Clindamycin to my patients with similar complaints with infection.
Nothing to worry.
Get it removed and become free.
Wish you good health.
Regards
