Posted on Mon, 20 Feb 2017
Question: MY 25 yr old daughter is having sharp pains in her lower left abdomen. She thought it might be constipation and took a laxative at 8 last night. It still has not worked and she is still in pain. She is supposed to go out of town for work today and is panicking. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Possible cyst rupture

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

If there is no relief after passing stool then this may be caused by ruptured ovarian cyst or kidney stones. She should take non-steroid painkiller such as diclofenac and have easier diet. If there is no improvement, she should do gynecologic ultrasound today.

Wish you good health.
