What Causes Lower Back And Leg Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: M-64. Extremely well controlled diabetic (a1c low 5s - fasting this AM was 78). Intense lower back pain radiating to mostly right leg, sometimes both. Tramadol(50) & amitriptyline (10) prescribed with no noticeable effect. I awoke this morning with intense shooting pain in both shins. This abated after walking around a bit. After taking ibuprofen(800) this PM, I was relativity plain free - first time in several weeks. However, even with a 6 HR re-dose, the pain is returning. Walking any distance is very painful. 2.5/250 hydrocodone/acetaminophen helps but, for obvious reasons, I'm not interested in going down that road. Involved with PT but have been unable to attend due to pain. MRI ordered by my PCP but refused by insurance. Out of work for the last 2 weeks. Looking for advice.

Brief Answer:
Vitamin D3 deficiency may be there.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern.

You are likely to be having vitamin D3 deficiency so get your vitamin D3 levels done and if found low you can take its supplements. You can take analgesic such as ibuprofen (which you are already talking) for pain relief. Rest may be of help as you have shin pains indicating stress on bone.

You can x ray both knee AP view in standing to see arthritis condition of knee.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
