default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: I have hooked a heart rate monitor to myself while in bed at complete rest i found out the following:
Heart rate at rest around 57 bpm while awake and not moving at all.
Heart rate at the moment i will get into deep sleep heart rate value is 53.

Awake and ambiant heart rate while normal sitting or standing between 60 and 100.

I am not symptomatic but i am NOT an athlete . I have a normal ecg and echo exam.
Why is it that i have such low heart rate values in the 50s at complete rest/ almost sleep. I am paranoid about it.

Brief Answer:
Perfectly NORMAL,no need to be paranoid...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the results of the heart rate monitor and found your heart rate to be completely normal.

Please bare in mind that it is normal to have heart rate 57 bpm at rest and 53 in deep sleep; and it is also normal to have heart rate ranging from 60 to 100 while sitting or standing.

All your heart rates recorded fall within NORMAL range and there is nothing you should be paranoid of. I advise to conduct a healthy lifestyle and diet regimen and think positively letting your body functioning naturally as it is created.

All the best! Enjoy life without paranoia!

Brief Answer:
To get prepared for sleeping&resting at night...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

That is perfectly normal. When you are getting to sleep (half awake), the para-sympathetic system is being activated (preparing to sleep and rest at night); while the sympathetic system is "falling asleep" (as it is responsible for our daily activities.

Therefore, every organ of our body is preparing to go to sleep (slow functions), including heart. That's why the heart rate falls to 50 or may fall even under 45 in deep sleep.

Hope it answered to your queries!
