Question: Hello Doctor,

Recently we visited a Gyn doctor in XXXXXXX as my wife is 7.5 month pregnant. She is having a issue of low hemoglobin (Hemoglobin is not increasing since last three months and it is stagnant at 10 to 10.5 levels). The doctor prescribed some tests. I have done these testes. The report of these is attached herewith for your reference. Please can you go through them and suggest the medication. She is currently taking the normal Iron and calcium tablets.

Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
Reports are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
I have seen all the reports and they all are within normal reports but for Hb which is slightly low.
But you need not worry about that because this type of constant HB is seen routinely in pregnancy. This is due to hemodilution.
Blood volume increases by 60-70% and RBC increases by 30-40% so the increase in RBC
is masked by increased blood volume. This is called hemodilution.
And the fetus continuously takes iron to meet its requirements. So it might also decrease HB.
Continue the same iron and calcium tablets.
The iron dose can be increased to twice a day if taking only one time.
Avoid tea and take iron tablet 1 hour after eating rice.Because rice and tea might decrease the iron absorbtion.
Take vitamin C rich fruits like orange along with iron tablet as it increases iron absorption.
Take iron rich food like green leafy veggies, dates, beet root, zaggery rich foods, liver, figs etc.Because dietary iron is also important along with iron suppements.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha
