Brief Answer:
It usually takes 4-6 days

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Most of the time loose stool in this age group occurs due to viral infection. If stool is mixed with the blood then it is usually a bacterial infection.
In any diarrhea the main aim of management is to prevent dehydration. Only in bacterial diarrhea antibiotic is needed. Your doctor has prescribed you right medications.

During the diarrhea there is loss of normal bacterial flora and absorptive layer of the intestine. Due to loss of normal absorptive layer there is increased frequency of stool. It usually takes 5-6 days for regeneration of new absorptive layer.

Enterogermina contains normal gut flora and zinc helps in early regeneration of the absorptive layer.

Usually the frequency starts decreasing and consistency of stools starts improving after 2-3 days and after 5-6 days bowel get back to usual pattern.

I would suggest you to give plenty of ORS along with enterogermina and zinc as prescribed.Avoid fibre containing diet, fruit juices, aerated drinks.Decrease the amount of milk content in diet ,if he is not predominantly milk fed.Observe for activity of baby(lethargic/irritable), urinary frequency and if there is any abnormality consult your physician.
Maintain the hydration and after 5-6 days his bowel pattern will be reagular.

I will be glad to answer if you have any further query.

Regards
