What Causes Little Bumps Only On Finger?

default
Posted on Sat, 13 Jun 2015
Question: Hey,
For about the past year, I noticed little bumps on my middle left finger only. It caused peeling and is very sensitive to hot or very cold substances. It would heal up and then repeat, peeling my finger till seems thin layer of skin. Then recently, I notice my middle finger on right hand started to do the same. mainly on the tip on fingers near finger nails. Now I just noticed my other finger and thumbs are getting these little bumps.
My history includes my getting cold sores, every since I was 8 years old. I never seen any bumps in my genital areas and never been diagnosed with any STD or herpes. I've been married 18 years with only one sexual partner my husband. However unusual, I recently seen a raised bump on my husband pinky but it it large and raised, not tiny little bumps like mine. I asked what it was he joked it off and that was that. I constantly feel itchy and like little pinches all over my body. My eyes feel hot or feverish if that sounds normal. Notice my joints hurt, knees, ankles.
I have hypothyroidism, started w/ hyperthyroidism for past 15 years. Synthroid 4 mg. the condition after peeling leaves finger very wrinkled and ugly.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Herpetic whitlow

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

What you describe is a herpetic whitlow. It is caused by oral herpes manifesting on your finger. It is common and not associated with any STDs. It was caused from touching the cold sores on your lips and transmitting the virus to your finger. There is no treatment and low risk of transmission to other parts of your body or to other people.
