What Causes Light Headedness And Low Ferritin Levels?
Can be due to pernicious anaemia or low ferritin levels.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The delayed periods with less bleeding that you have is likely to be related to PCOD. The regular dizziness can be related to low ferritin levels, low levels of vitamin B 12 or cervical spondylosis. Taking regular folic and B12 supplements will help in decreasing the dizziness. In case it persists then do consult an ENT specialist to rule out spondylosis or middle ear problems.
To regularize the periods, combined oral pills is the only option for you. Using progesterone only pills can be associated with infrequent periods. You can get low dose hormonal pills prescribed from your gynecologist.

Thanks for your reply. I did send a reply but it doesn;t look like you received it?
I have had ENT investigations in the past and nothing showed up. I have only once been deficient in low ferritin levels, but unless its monthly low levels, i cannot see how this attributes to the feelings of lightheadedness i experience almost 2 out of 3 weeks. I do not have periods as such being on the progesterone only pill, sometimes a light bleed and other times phantom periods where i have all the symptoms but no bleed. I was put on cerazette due to age and BMI so unable to take the combined pill- however years ago when I was on the conbined pill i still experienced these symptoms of lightheadedness. Is there any daily supplements which i could take to help if it is down to the anaemia? such as zinc, evening primrose, ferrous fumarate or phosphate or folic acid? Having pernicious anaemia would i be able to take a multivitamin or would my body not be able to asborb like the b12? Just a final question with regards to the cervical spondylosis - can you give me more information on this, is it diagnosed on x-ray? Are symptoms daily or can they be intermittent? If it is down to spondylosis i would be unable to take NSAIDS due to my asthma, could you recommend anything else that may help? I have FH of osteoarthritis, both of my late parents had it and interestingly i did have a car accident and some whiplash many years ago and have ongoing neck pain and stiffness but at the time x-ray of cervical spine didn't reveal any abnormality. I also get pain in my shoulders but they both have always rolled forward no matter how i try to correct posture. I would be grateful for your help and what you feel I need to approach my GP to ask for.
MRI scan needed for diagnosis.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The daily supplements that you can take include folic acid and evening primrose. These will be absorbed well and can help the dizziness. The dizziness can be due to cervical spondylosis and the symptoms can vary with change in posture or muscle stiffness.
It can be diagnosed after an MRI scan of the cervical spine. Taking a muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone can help in reducing the symptoms. Doing a hot compress and application of local analgesic gel will also help.
Hope my answer is helpful.
